A conceituada revista americana Rolling Stone, divulgou uma lista com as 100 melhores músicas da história da Motown, o selo musical que revolucionou a música jovem nos anos 60 e deu ao mundo algumas das maiores estrelas da história da música pop. Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Ricky James e muitos outros astros foram revelados pela gravadora de Detroit.A lista é liderada por The Tracks Of My Tears, lançada em 1965 pelos Miracles. Uma música que segundo a publicação “captura toda a genialidade de Smokey Robinson em três minutos. Em 1965 todo compositor vivo queria ser Smokey, e essa música mostra o porquê”.A lista traz que as décadas de 60 (com 51 faixas) e 70 (38 faixas) foram a época de maior fertilidade da gravadora, fundada em 1959 por Berry Gordy Jr. e que hoje faz parte da Universal Music. Wonder é outro artista de ouro da companhia, que ainda grava pelo selo, ainda que desde 2005 ele não lance um novo disco.A música mais antiga dentro do TOP 100 é Money (that’s What I Want), lançada em 1959 por Barrett Strong, que foi o primeiro single da gravadora, ocupando a 52º posição. End Of The Road dos Boyz II Men dos anos 90 (que passou 13 semanas no nº1 da parada de singles) é a mais nova.Diana Ross é a artista mais presente na lista, com 11 músicas dela com as Supremes (foto acima), e outras duas são de sua carreira solo. Marvin, Gaye, Stevie Wonder (ambos com 11 faixas) e Smokey Robinson com 10 (incluindo faixas solo ou com as Miracles), aparece em seguida.
